Living wisely

February 22, 2014

“Life is only lived wisely to the extent that it is spent in preparation for the eternity that follows.”

– Dave Hunt

Psalms 90:12 So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.

Ephesians 5:15-17 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.

Colossians 1:10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;

1 Thessalonians 4:1 Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more.

Psalms 37:23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.

Proverbs 4:26 Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.

LEARNING CONTENTMENT IN ALL CIRCUMSTANCES

February 21, 2014

“Many people realize too late that we don’t arrive at contentment as a destination as much as we develop contentment as a state of mind… we can gain contentment when we trust in God’s strength and God’s grace to sustain us through any circumstance.  Whether you’re single or married; whether you’re liked, loved, or lonely; the key to contentment is trust.  Believe it or not, if we are discontented with singleness, we’ll more than likely face discontentment when we’re married.  When we define our happiness by some point in the future, it will never arrive.  We’ll keep waiting until tomorrow.  If we allow impatience to govern us, we will miss the gift of the moment.  We’ll arrive at that point in time that we expected to provide fulfillment and find it lacking.”

– Joshua Harris

“Don’t instill, or allow anybody else to instill into the hearts of your girls the idea that marriage is the chief end of life. If you do, don’t be surprised if they get engaged to the first empty, useless fool they come across.”

– General William Booth

“There is no need to rush into marriage. Many well–meaning Christians are not content to let people remain single. The urge to play cupid and matchmaker can be strong, but mature believers must resist it.”

– John MacArthur

Philippians 4:11-13 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

“I have heard of some good old woman in a cottage, who had nothing but a piece of bread and a little water, and lifting up her hands, she said, as a blessing, ‘What! all this, and Christ too?'”

– C. H. Spurgeon

Hebrews 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

“Remember that a man’s contentment is in his mind, not in the extent of his possessions. Alexander, with all the world at his feet, cries for another world to conquer.”

– C. H. Spurgeon

1 Timothy 6:6-9 But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.

“To many men it is given to have all that heart can wish, and yet not to have what their heart does wish. They have everything except contentment.”

– C. H. Spurgeon

“You’ll learn contentment when you’ve stood in the valley of the shadow of death, when you’ve been at the brink, when you can’t resolve your problems, when you can’t eliminate the conflict, when you can’t fix your marriage, when you can’t do anything about the kids, when you can’t change your work environment, when you’re unable to fight the disease that’s wracking your body. That’s when you’ll turn to God and find the strength to get through the situation.”

– John MacArthur

“Christian contentment is that sweet, inward, quiet, gracious frame of spirit, which freely submits to and delights in God’s wise and fatherly disposal in every condition”

Jeremiah Burroughs

“A contented person is confident in God’s providence, satisfied with little, independent from circumstances, strengthened by divine power, and preoccupied with the well-being of others.”

– John MacArthur

“But how easy it is, how easy it must be, for a man to be contented when he knows that God has promised to be with him in all circumstances and at all times!”
– C. H. Spurgeon

Who is directing your steps?

February 16, 2014

Proverbs 3:6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

1 Thessalonians 3:11 Now God himself and our Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way unto you.

2 Thessalonians 3:5 And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ.

Who will you submit to?

February 15, 2014

“The govt. believes they have the right to dominate everything in society & our lives. The govt. wants all, incl. control over churches & your mind, yet Christ wants all also. Will we submit to the state or maintain our integrity? If so, when will the showdown come in your life?”

– Fritz Springmeier

Acts 5:27-29 And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them, Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man’s blood upon us. Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.

Today and tomorrow

February 15, 2014

“God gives you the glorious gift of life today; live in the light and full joy of that day, using the resources God supplies. Don’t push yourself into the future and forfeit the day’s joy over some tomorrow that may never happen. Today is all you really have, for God permits none of us to live in tomorrow until it turns into today.”

– John MacArthur

Sin in the heart of our imaginations

February 14, 2014

The common law requires that one has to commit an overt act of violation before he can be found guilty. But according to the Divine law one is guilty of sin even though he never committed an overt act, since guilt lies in the desires and purposes of the heart:

Matthew 5:28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

1 John 3:15 Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.

Genesis 6:5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

Genesis 8:21 And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake; for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done.

1 Samuel 16:7 But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.

Jeremiah 17:9-10 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.

Mark 7:20-23 And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.

1 John 2:15-17 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

Holiness

February 14, 2014

“Holiness is not something to be received in a meeting; it is a life to be lived and to be lived in detail.”

– D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones

Eternal life

February 14, 2014

“If eternal life be of so easy attainment, and to be had at so cheap a rate, why did our Lord Christ tell us, “Strait is the gate and narrow is the way which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it?” … certainly, therefore, it is no such easy thing to be saved, as many make it…”

– Matthew Mead

Death

February 14, 2014

“The best moment of a Christian’s life is his last one, because it is the one that is nearest heaven.”

– C. H. Spurgeon

“Death is God’s delightful way of giving us life.”

– Oswald Chambers

“It is the very joy of this earthly life to think that it will come to an end.”

– C. H. Spurgeon
