Godly Tolerance and Intolerance / Ungodly Tolerance and Intolerance

“The views among the pagan ‘prohibiting’ the exercise of a certain kind of religion. According to the prevailing views, no mode of religion could be tolerated which would maintain that “all” the gods that were worshipped were false. Religion was supposed to be identified with the best interests of the state, and was recognized by the laws, and protected by the laws. To deny the claim, therefore, of any and of all the gods that were worshipped; to maintain that all were false alike; to call on men to forsake their idols, and to embrace a new religion – all this was regarded as an attack on the state. This was the attitude which Christianity assumed toward the religions of the Roman empire, and it was this which led to the fiery persecutions which prevailed there. While Rome could consistently tolerate any form of idolatry that would recognize the religion established by the state, it could not tolerate a system which maintained that “all” idolatry was wrong. It would allow another god to be placed in the Pantheon, but it could not recognize a system which woud remove every god from that temple. Christianity, then, made war on the system of idolatry that prevailed in the Roman empire in two respects: in proclaiming a “purer” religion, denouncing all the corruptions which idolatry had engendered, and which it countenanced; and in denying altogether that the gods which were worshipped were true gods – thus arraying itself against the laws, the priesthood, the venerable institutions, and all the passions and prejudices of the people. But the post-modern notion of tolerance means we must never regard anyone else’s opinions as ‘wrong.’ Biblical tolerance is for people; post-modern tolerance is for ideas. Accepting every belief as equally valid is hardly a real virtue, but it is about the kind of only “virtue” post-modernism knows anything about… Predictably, the beatification of post-modern tolerance has had a disastrous effect on real virtue in our society. In this age of tolerance, what was once forbidden is now encouraged…One major exception to that rule stands out starkly: it is OK for post-modernists to be intolerant of those who claim they know the truth — particularly biblical Christians.” (Emphasis added)

But even with that kind of love and charity, Jesus was so intolerant that He taught, ‘If you are not on my side, then you are against me; if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.’ He did not leave any middle ground to accommodate the neutral folks who preach tolerance. Christ leaves no middle ground, no place in between.

Tolerance easily becomes a matter of cowardice if spiritual principles are involved and if the Bible is ignored. Suppose we take the position of tolerance and compromise on the issue of salvation. ‘Everyone come to Christ and be saved, if you want to; but if you do not want to be saved, maybe there is some other way that we can find for you. We want you to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ if you will, but if you do not want to, then we will try to find a possibility that God will have some other way for you.’

So tolerance is a spreading disease that is eating away at the absolutes of divine revelation and the unchanging truths of the Bible. But tolerance must not be tolerated by the true Christian, even when it costs them misunderstanding or alienation from friends, family, and this world.” (Emphasis Added)

Proverbs 29:25 The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.

I reckon besides just fear, many of those who tolerate false doctrine are people who have lack of biblical concern, being in a state of indifference or apathy and even leniency. Those who have tolerance towards false or unsound doctrine, really have a lack of or no biblical convictions.

Yet even worse than just toleration, we see those unifying with those preaching and promoting unsound doctrine all around us today.

Rather than tolerating and unifying with sin and error, we should separate from it! Those that are promoting errors of false doctrine, we should mark them and avoid them and not receive them in our homes, nor bid them God speed.

Romans 16:17 Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.

2 John 1:9-11 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.

 

“I am convinced that a committed Christian will show a zealous concern for the cause of Christ. He or she will live daily with a set of spiritual convictions taken from the Bible. He or she will be one of the toughest to move—along with a God-given humility—in his or her stand for Christ. Why, then, have Christian ministers so largely departed from exhortations to love righteousness with a great, overwhelming love, and to hate iniquity with a deep, compelling revulsion?

People remark how favored the church is in this country. It does not have to face persecution and rejection. If the truth were known, our freedom from persecution is because we have taken the easy, the popular way. If we would love righteousness until it became an overpowering passion, if we would renounce everything that is evil, our day of popularity and pleasantness would quickly end. The world would soon turn on us.

We are too nice! We are too tolerant! We are too anxious to be popular! We are too quick to make excuses for sin in its many forms! If I could stir Christians around me to love God and hate sin, even to the point of being a bit of a nuisance, I would rejoice. If some Christian were to call me for counsel saying he or she is being persecuted for Jesus’ sake, I would say with feeling, ‘Thank God!'” (Emphasis added)

75-Year-Old Irish Preacher Under ‘Hate Crime’ Investigation for Sermon Against Islam

At the Whitewell Metropolitan Tabernacle Belfast on 18th May 2014 Pastor James McConnell speaking out against Islam said:

– “The God we worship and serve this evening is not Allah,”

– “The Muslim god—Allah—is a heathen deity. Allah is a cruel deity. Allah is a demon deity.”

– “Islam is heathen, Islam is Satanic, Islam is a doctrine spawned in Hell.”

 

Biblically Allah is not God and those who worship another god are idol worshipers.

Exodus 20:3-5 Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

Exodus 34:14 For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:

1 Corinthians 10:14 Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.

 

The Islam Jesus is not God in flesh (Surah 4:172; 5:73; 9:30), where biblically He is God:

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Colossians 2:9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counseller, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

FALSE TEACHERS WHO PROMOTE THE EVILS OF INFANT BAPTISM AND BAPTISMAL REGENERATION

“…infant baptism is far from being harmless. On the contrary, that it is one of the most calamitous evils with which the church has ever been visited. … INFANT BAPTISM IS AN EVIL BECAUSE ITS PRACTICE IS UNSUPPORTED BY THE WORD OF GOD … Evil is found prevailing even in the professed churches of Christ! … In no form, however, has it afflicted the cause of truth and salvation more grievously, than in that of infant baptism; a rite generally prevalent, but without divine authority; repulsive in itself, and in its consequences always injurious… Is infant baptism supported by the Word of God? I aver that it is not. It is nowhere commanded. It is nowhere, in any form, divinely authorised. Examine the holy record, from first to last, and you will discover not a trace of infant baptism. If it is anywhere commanded, or authorised, the passages in which that fact appears, can be produced. Where are they? Let them be forthcoming. We have a right to see, and to examine them, for ourselves. We demand the texts. But this demand has before been often made, and always in vain. They have never been produced. They have not yet been found. They never can be found. They do not exist. The Word of God, in all its length and breadth, contains not a syllable of authority for infant baptism, in the form of command, of precept, of permission, of example, or in any other form whatever. In that sacred book not one word in relation to it, is anywhere uttered. He who claims divine authority for infant baptism, must justify himself by adducing it. … Martin Luther, the great father of the Reformation, says:—‘It cannot be proved by the scriptures, that infant baptism was instituted by Christ, or begun by the first Christians after the apostles’.1  John Calvin testifies thus:—‘It is nowhere expressly mentioned by the evangelists, that any child was by the apostles baptised’.2 … Infant baptism is not found in any form in the Bible. Every effort to deduce it from the sacred records, no matter how ingeniously conducted, has proved a wretched failure. It is confessed by its advocates that it is not found in the inspired pages. Infant baptism is therefore, unsupported by the Word of God.” [Emphasis added]

What doth hinder me to be baptized?

Acts 8:34-39 And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man? Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus. And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him. And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing.

 

Many false teachers are promote the heresy of Infant Baptism:

Sadly many professed Christians and teachers who have no scriptural support for Infant Baptism have turned to the fable of infant baptism.

2 Timothy 4:3-4 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

 

Billy Graham deceived by the evils of Infant Baptism

Billy Graham grew up going to a Presbyterian Church and then joined the Southern Baptist Church but his wife Ruth remained a Presbyterian. In 1961, Billy Graham in an interview with the Lutheran Standard shows you how Billy Graham was deceived by the evils and heresy of infant baptism also:

“I have some difficulty in accepting the indiscriminate baptism of infants without a careful regard as to whether the parents have any intention of fulfilling the promise they make. But I DO BELIEVE THAT SOMETHING HAPPENS AT THE BAPTISM OF AN INFANT, particularly if the parents are Christians and teach their children Christian Truths from childhood. We cannot fully understand the miracles of God, but I BELIEVE THAT A MIRACLE CAN HAPPEN IN THESE CHILDREN SO THAT THEY ARE REGENERATED, THAT IS, MADE CHRISTIAN, THROUGH INFANT BAPTISM. If you want to call that baptismal regeneration, that’s all right with me” (Graham, interview with Wilfred Bockelman, associate editor of the Lutheran Standard, American Lutheran Church, Lutheran Standard, October 10, 1961). Of such, near the time of his conversion to Luther’s Protestantism, Calvin wrote, ‘One should not be content with simply killing such people, but should burn them cruelly.’23 Calvin banished them from Geneva in 1537.24 How could today’s born-again and baptized former Catholics consider Calvin as one of them? They couldn’t–and wouldn’t.”

R.C. Sproul deceived by the evils of Infant Baptism

Jesus preached the one man/one woman marriage of Genesis 2 and not homosexual marriage:

Matthew 19:1-6 And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these sayings, he departed from Galilee, and came into the coasts of Judaea beyond Jordan; And great multitudes followed him; and he healed them there. The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause? And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

Genesis 2:24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

Paul wrote as “a servant of Jesus, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God” (Rom. 1:1), that homosexuality is:

  1.“vile affections

2. “against nature”

3. “unseemly”

4. “error”

5. “a reprobate mind”

Romans 1:26-28 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

Sadly our college kids are often (deceived or ignorantly) opposed to Jesus and the word of God on this issue:

Jude 1:7-8 Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities.

 

Hilary Clinton’s flattering lips and double heart:

“Marriage has got historic, religious and moral content that goes back to the beginning of time, and I think a marriage is as a marriage has always been, between a man and a woman,” said Hilary Clinton in White Plains. “But I also believe that people in committed gay marriages, as they believe them to be, should be given rights under the law that recognize and respect their relationship. Psalms 12:2 They speak vanity every one with his neighbour: with flattering lips and with a double heart do they speak.

James 1:8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

James 4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

When people refuse to acknowledge the sinfulness of homosexuality they are:

1. calling evil good and good evil
2. putting darkness for light and light for darkness
3. putting bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter

Isaiah 5:20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

We need to pronounce a WOE unto these people that are promoting homosexuality, as it will be an expensive cost to the many souls that will spend an eternity in hell for such unrepentant lifestyles.

 

TRANSSEXUAL/TRANSVESTITE ABOMINATION

Though the term transvestite was not used in the bible; the lustful idea or practice of it was an abomination:

Deuteronomy 22:5 The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman’s garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God.

This is what we call today a transsexual, or a transvestite, or perhaps even another name that I’m not aware of. A person who exchanges his dress for that of the other sex because it brings on some certain kind of lustful thrill.”

“This is a true transsexual, someone who in the very primitive way had his maleness destroyed. Now this was a kind of ancient surgery. … There are people who claim that they are somehow women trapped in men’s bodies and go to a doctor to have a surgery. Someone who does that will not enter the assembly of the Lord. In the ancient times people would have this done for the gods to become a eunuch and go serve the gods and go to a temple and become a male prostitute. Parents would do it to boys as young as ten years of age.”

Leviticus 20:13 If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

There have been quite a number of books written by or about people who claim to have personally visited Heaven. Some of these authors profess to be Christians while others do not. The descriptions of their experiences vary regarding such things as entering into a dazzling white light at the end of a dark tunnel and being greeted by deceased loved ones, or being in the presence of God and seeing the shed feathers of angels dotting the grand floor of His throne room. Many of their stories contain information that would seem to be beyond their ability to know at the time–or at all. Although these individuals supply much information, the content raises many questions. Obviously, everything they say can’t be true because some of the content in one book contradicts what’s written in others. How do we know who is giving us an accurate and truthful account? In the ancient world a mystery was a sacred secret known only to initiates and sometimes only to upper level religionists. The system of mystery religions began in ancient Babylon and spread in various forms to every part of the civilized world. A influential Greek philosophical system of New Testament times was called gnosticism, a name derived from gnōsis, which means knowledge. Gnostics considered themselves the ones “in the know” as far as philosophical matters were concerned.

In ancient Egypt a popular religious mystery involved the mythical god Osiris and his goddess wife Isis. Osiris was a wise and benevolent king who was persuaded by his wicked brother Seth to come to a banquet, where, with the help of seventy-two co-conspirators, Seth placed the king in a coffin and threw him into the Nile River to drown. Osiris was rescued by Isis and brought home; but when Seth discovered his brother was alive, he went to the palace and cut Osiris into fourteen pieces, which he shipped to fourteen far-separated locations throughout Egypt. After Isis managed to collect all the pieces of his body, Osiris miraculously restored himself to life; and from the time of his “resurrection” he became the immortal king of both the living and the dead.

Although the story itself was fascinating to anyone who heard it, its deeper meanings were known only to initiates of the Osiris and Isis cults. For them each person and incident in the story had special significance. For example, Osiris represented all good and was attacked by Seth, who represented all evil. The unrelenting devotion of Isis represented the redemptive and triumphal power of love. The ultimate secret, or mystery, was the formula, “I am thou, and thou art I,” which, when spoken to Osiris, would place the worshiper in eternal union with that god.

Similar attitudes of exclusiveness and concepts of mystery are seen in modern secret societies, whose most important rituals and principles are known only to members, and sometimes only to the highest ranking leaders.

“The idea that God is an old man with a beard sitting in a chair is completely contrary to Scripture and is unacceptable. Idolatry does not begin with a sculptor’s hammer; it begins in the mind. When we think of God we should visualize absolutely nothing. No visual conception of Him could properly represent His eternal nature and glory. … Even statues or other images of Christ are not to be revered or worshiped. Only Christ is to be worshipe[d], not likenesses of Him. They do not represent Jesus Christ, no matter what our claims and intentions are. ‘God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth’ (John 4:24). Even nonliturgical Christians should be on guard, whether in public worship or private devotions, about associating any place, picture, or pattern of worship too closely with God. It is easy for such a thing to come between us and Him, though we may think it helps draw us closer.” (Emphasis added)
