No “Baptist” churches in the bible

February 17, 2014

“I have been a Baptist by conviction for 40 years. At the same time, I understand that the name “Baptist” is never used in the Bible in direct connection with the church. God gave the name Baptist to John, but He never called any of the churches a Baptist church. I refuse to go beyond the Bible in these matters and to make more of a name than the Bible itself would support. The Bible is the sole authority for faith and practice. Regardless of how helpful the term “Baptist” might be, and regardless of how renowned its history might be, the fact remains that most Baptist churches today are deeply compromised and multitudes of them are apostate.”

Frightful and Shocking Changes in Large Numbers of Churches

February 14, 2014

“I have been preaching for nearly 40 years and the negative changes that have occurred among Independent Baptists is frightful and shocking. In this day and time when dozens of heresies have found a happy home among Independent Baptists and when large numbers of IFB churches, such as Trinity Baptist Church, Jacksonville, Florida, are well down the emerging path, it is open and gross disobedience to Almighty God to say that we should not separate from a bunch of IFBs.”

Deeply compromised

February 14, 2014

“Regardless of how helpful the term ‘Baptist’ might be, and regardless of how renowned its history might be, the fact remains that most Baptist churches today are deeply compromised and multitudes of them are apostate. Sadly, the name has been so corrupted that it has become almost meaningless.”

Evangelical movement

February 13, 2014

“The evangelical movement took a dramatic new turn in the mid-20th century, and we see the shocking fruit of it today. It is large, influential, wealthy, intellectually interesting, but it is also filled with worldly compromise and heresies. …. As for independent Baptists in particular, they are at the same place today that the New Evangelicals were just a few decades ago. …. Evangelical churches are filled with nominal Christians who do not have a clear new birth testimony….. The purity of the gospel and …. salvation is foundational to maintaining the truth and keeping churches pure, and salvation is a supernatural birth and not a sacramental process. Those who are not saved do not have the indwelling Spirit of truth and cannot properly interpret the Bible and do not have zeal to defend it. …… When you meet a victim of a Quick Prayerism program and try to deal with them about the salvation of his soul, he will reply, “I have done that,” even though he is still living like the devil. What he means is that he has “prayed the prayer” and been given assurance by a Quick Prayerism evangelist. This could be a major reason why the independent Baptist movement has been shot through and through with immorality, biblical shallowness, and carnality. Churches that are not exceedingly careful about salvation and about receiving members can become filled up with nominal Christians.”

“They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate” (Titus 1:16)

“He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him” (1 John 2:4)

Emerging church

February 13, 2014

“Indeed, the emerging church is coming to independent Baptists. It is not something “way over there.” Its destructive seeds are being sown in our very midst, and ignorance and apathy and compromising neutrality will not win the battle.”

Independent Baptist Churches

February 11, 2014

“I could not support probably 90% of the Independent Baptist churches, and they probably would not support me. Most of them do not stand where I stand on a variety of issues I consider important. I have made these clear in my books and articles. I fear that Independent Baptist churches in general, as a movement, are biblically shallow, frightfully uneducated on serious issues; idolatrously man-centered, carnal, and hypocritical. Some are near cult-like in granting unquestioning loyalty to a man. Many practice a Quick Prayerism type of “soul winning” that inoculates more people to genuine salvation and thus damns more people to hell than the number of those that are truly “won.” Many hold to a goofy Ruckmanite belief that the KJV itself was given by inspiration, is advanced revelation, and is itself the unchangeable Word of God, confusing dots over i’s and crosses over t’s in English with the jots and tittles of Hebrew, though they refuse to tell us which edition of the KJV is absolutely infallible. Many Independent Baptist churches are no different in character today than the nearly lifeless Southern Baptist church I grew up in: they don’t believe in separation; in fact they hate and ridicule separation; they love the world and its pop culture and would hate any preacher that tried to reprove them; most of the young people appear by all biblical signs to be lost and the leaders and people are unconcerned because “they’ve prayed the prayer”; the preaching is powerless; the vision and passion for Christ’s Great Commission is almost non-existent.”
